1399th Engineer Construction Battalion
The 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion was established April 1944. Soldiers of the 370th Engineer Battalion were the nucleus of the battalion. Stationed on Oahu, the 1399th did not engage in combat but contributed greatly to the war effort. Dubbed “The Lost and Forgotten Battalion,” the 1399th completed over 54 major projects, including: construction of a million-gallon water tank, jungle training camps, air-strips, warehouses and water lines.
